More Info
Think hunting from an elevated stand is the only way to hunt deer? Think again. More and more hunters are discovering that ground blinds for deer hunting are just as effective. Plus they're safer, easier to get into, and they keep your feet on the ground. No more holding your breath at 20 feet off the ground. Even better, you can bring a friend or family member along to share the experience. There's even room for a video camera so you can relive the thrill all over again.
The most important thing to know about deer hunting from a ground blind is to camouflage the blind so that it blends in seamlessly with the environment. Take the time to brush in the blind with surrounding vegetation to break up the outline. The camouflage pattern on the ground blind will help you blend in with the area, but your chances of success are much greater if you add natural foliage to the outline of the blind. Use deadfall, brush, leaves, and other foliage to camouflage your ground blind.
If possible, set up the deer blind a week or two in advance to allow the deer to get used to it. Position the blind so that the deer will come towards it at an angle down the trail. You don't want deer to be coming directly towards the ground blind.
To make sure your silhouette doesn't show, keep the window behind you closed. The blackout interior will swallow your shadow. Only open windows on two or three sides, and use camouflage mesh for better concealment. The mesh lets you see outside but keeps the deer from seeing you inside the blind.
